These activities cover a range of topics within the
Geography and Science National Curriculum for KS2. These sessions can
be altered to suit your needs.

Exploring the Environment |
Animal Tracking
Half day |
Become a super sleuth of the animal world by investigating
shells left under the hazel, acorns on old tree stumps,
burrows found in the woods, hairs caught on barbed wire and
prints in the mud. |
Village Study*
Half day |
Examine the village for signs of how it developed, its
industries and its age. Compare this with your school
location. There is also a geology village trail available
looking at the use of different rocks within the village. |
Pond Dipping*
Half day |
Children investigate the wildlife in the lake, moat and
wetland areas. |
Shelter Building
Half day |
Learn about the basics of survival in Hooke Woods. Build
your own shelters and think about what else you might need
to survive in the wilderness of Bongo-Bongo valley! |
River Life
Half day |
A detailed exploration of the River Hooke to see what plant,
animal and insect life it has bred. |
Earth Walks
Half day |
A series of fun games designed to heighten children’s
awareness of the world around them. |
Fossil Hunting at Charmouth
Half day |
After an introduction to fossils at the Charmouth Heritage
Centre take a walk on the beach with a local warden who will
help everyone find a fossil to take home. Will anyone find
an ichthyosaur?

River Study
Full day |
Investigate the pools and waterways. Study indicator
species, wetland flora and fauna, flow of water and cross
section of the stream bed. This activity involves a walk to
Kingcombe. As they walk the children identify river features
from various vantage points along the route. |
Food Chains & Food Webs
Half day |
Who is at the top of the food chain and who’s unlucky enough
to be at the bottom? A series of fun games examining food
chains and webs in the world around us. |
Seed Dispersal and Survival
(seasonal)
Half day |
Learn about how seeds are dispersed and what keeps them
alive in their new environments (Autumn only). |
Woodland Study
Half day |
A study of the trees, plants and wildlife in both the
grounds of Hooke Court and nearby Hooke Woods reveals the
nature of how a woodland ecology evolves and sustains itself
and why man’s intervention is sometimes necessary. |
Populations & Habitats
Half day |
An opportunity to study populations and habitats within a
range of environments - woodland, meadow, water… |
Night Walk
Evening activity |
Experience the countryside at night with a walk to Hooke
Woods |
