Roman Invaders
Based in the reconstructed house in the grounds of Hooke Court the programme comprises:

  • Introduction to the Roman Invasion and occupation in the South West

  • Practical activities relating to Roman life e.g. mosaics/clay work/ jewellery/spinning & weaving/cooking etc.

  • Re-enact the Roman invasion of Maiden Castle

  • Roman Army Boot Camp

  • Roman Technology

Tudor Traders
Based in the Court children are introduced to life in Tudor times. Practical activities are based on:

  • The Tudor Kitchen & Schoolroom

  • Tudor Pastimes

  • Time Team Investigators

  • Choose to enjoy two activities from costume, drama & dance

  • Murder at the Court

  • Tudor Banquet

  • Trade and Travel in Tudor Times

Victorian Servants
Based in the Court, children gain an insight into Victorian Life. Practical activities include:

  • The Victorian Schoolroom, Kitchen & Laundry

  • Victorian Crafts

  • A Victorian Tea Party

  • Time Team Investigators

  • Parlour Games

  • Visit to Max Gate or Re-enactment of the Tolpuddle Martyrs Trial at Dorchester Crown Court

Wartime Evacuees
The activities are all based in the Court and cover various aspects of life as a wartime evacuee:

  • Drama workshop examining the arrival and allocation of children to homes

  • Cooking with rations; VE Day Party

  • Wartime Drills

  • Code Breaking

  • Visit to a local World War II Museum or Low ropes or Team Building games

Historical Enquirers
Based on the findings of Channel 4's Time Team this programme is designed to improve your class's historical enquiry skills. Activities will include:

  • Time Team Game

  • Dig and map your own trench

  • Clean and log your finds

  • Reconstruct pots using your primary evidence

  • A practical study of building construction through the ages
